President Donald Trump’s stated at the G-20 Summit in Tokyo at the end of June that, as trade talks with China were about to resume, some sales to Huawei might be allowed. However, no details on which technologies might receive clearance have emerged.
Teramount, which specializes in fiber-to-silicon connectivity technology, and Hisense Broadband Multimedia Technology have signed an agreement though which Hisense Broadband will use Teramount’s PhotonicPlug approach in its optical module products.
Fiber Optic Center, Inc. (FOC), a distributor specializing in technology for cable assembly manufacture, has added a pair of new employees. The company says it has hired Kelly Michael Skelton as systems architect and Joni Montemagno as director, promotions marketing.
Lumentum Holdings Inc. says it has closed its previously announced sale of the datacom optical module lines that were part of Oclaro Japan to Cambridge Industries Group (CIG). The company reiterated that the sale was part of a strategy to stop selling datacom optical transceivers. Lumentum says its remaining datacom optical transceiver line will be phased out over the next 12 to 18 months. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Elenion Technologies earlier this month unveiled its Coherent Silicon Transmitter and Receiver (CSTAR) optical BGA platform. The platform is available in variants that support up to 600-Gbps per wavelength, with a 200-Gbps version currently sampling to customers. Elenion expects the CSTAR platform to find use in a variety of module form factors and applications, including OIF 400ZR QSFP-DD optical transceivers.
Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ: AVGO) earlier this month introduced the BCM87106 7-nm 100G PAM4 PHY. The device leverages Broadcom’s 7-nm Centenario 112G PAM4 technology for applications based on single-lambda 100G approaches, such as 100G DR, 100G FR, 400G DR4, and 400G FR4 optical transceivers.
3M used OFC 2019 in San Diego earlier this month to show off its Expanded Beam Optical Connector System. The Expanded Beam Optical Ferrule uses a non-contact optical coupling which, in combination with the connector design, reduces sensitivity to dust and improves signal integrity, says the company. The design therefore reduces the need for maintenance and cleaning.
