Masergy Communications Inc. has added managed software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) to its Masergy Managed Network f(n) line of global hybrid networking services. The new service dovetails with its enterprise customers' growing adoption of cloud and software as a service (SaaS), Masergy says.

Today's cloud-enabled enterprises require agile hybrid networks, Masergy asserts. The new SD-WAN is an example, as it is able to leverage any combination of broadband and high-performance private WAN connections. Masergy's says that managed SD-WAN will drive application performance and security while enhancing price-performance optimization. Performance and data resiliency features of the new service include:

  • Dynamic Path Control and Adaptive Forward Error Correction
  • Automatic IP-VPN tunnels with AES 256 encryption
  • Dynamic Policy-based Application Routing
  • Centralized Policy and Configuration Management.

"Hybrid networking and virtualized managed services, including new SD-WAN services, give businesses many new managed service options to create agile networks," said Mike Sapien, principal analyst at Ovum. "Businesses should seek service providers that deliver an integrated, comprehensive suite of hybrid network solutions to achieve optimal price/performance. Masergy's Hybrid Networking with Managed SD-WAN is one such solution."

Masergy says the managed SD-WAN offering should reach general availability in the fourth quarter of 2016.

The company joins a growing list of service providers who offer SD-WAN (see, for example, "CenturyLink offers managed SD-WAN service" and "Verizon partners with Viptela on SD-WAN").
