Broadband multiplexer platform supports T1/E1, OC-3/STM-1 interfaces
November 9, 2005 Richardson, TX -- White Rock Networks has expanded its optical transport product family to include its VLX840 OC-3/STM-1 to T1/E1 Multiplexer.
The company says the device will provide additional DS1 capacity in conjunction with the company's VLX2006 OC-48 SONET-based Optical Access platform, which supports OC-3/OC-12 drops, to form a platform that delivers both electrical (DS1/DS3) and optical (OC-3/12 and Fast Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet) services in a compact, power-efficient, carrier-class, environmentally-hardened package.
According to the company, with up to 84 T1s (63 E1s) terminated on an OC-3 (STM-1 or OC-3) the VLX840 can provide mass termination of TDM signals for T1/E1 site expansion, intra-office transport of T1/E1s, wireless cell site interconnects, or backhaul of legacy DLCs. The device can be configured for 1+1 or UPSR ring applications.
"The combined package of the VLX2006, with highly flexible Ethernet transport capabilities, and the VLX840, with compact high-density T1 capabilities, provides carriers with a low-cost solution for TDM and Ethernet convergence that also delivers carrier-class, fully protected networking capabilities," comments Troy Conley, VP of sales for White Rock Networks.
The company says that, as one of the first OC-48 ADM platforms under $10K, the VLX2006 is also among the first to offer fully protected TDM and Ethernet ports for the transport of business-critical services. The company says the platform's unique Ethernet protection allows carriers to offer data and video transport with the carrier-class reliability associated with traditional TDM traffic.
