February 14, 2005 Newbury Park, CA -- OptoTest has announced the release of its OP815 Insertion Loss Measurement Instrument. According to the company, the benchtop device offers a compact, automated solution for efficiently qualifying singlemode or multimode fiber-optic cable assemblies.

Integrating a stable single- or dual-wavelength source and optical power meter in a chassis measuring 8.5" x 3.5" x 12", the OP815 can be customized for a wide range of fiber-optic measurement tasks in high-volume manufacturing environments. The device can be automated over a USB interface using the company's OPL-Pro turnkey application software.

Each OP815 is built to order for either singlemode or multimode fiber with laser and LED sources available in most common wavelengths. Detectors are available to accommodate either single-channel or duplex fiber-optic cables. Connector options include FC, SC, ST, LC, and other types, as specified. Dual-wavelength versions are also available, incorporating a 1310-nm/1550-nm laser source for singlemode fiber, an 850-nm/1300-nm LED source for multimode fiber, as well as customized wavelength combinations. Additionally, single-wavelength multimode units can be ordered with controlled launch conditions, i.e., under-fill, full-fill, or over-fill, to meet specialized military and aerospace test requirements.
