Jan. 8, 2002To upgrade its backbone transport network to 2.5 Gbits/sec, Merit Network (San Jose, CA) chose Alidian Networks (San Jose, CA) OSN 4200 systems between its Ann Arbor and Southfield, Michigan network nodes.

The OSN 4200s will be currently configured as single-wavelength systems, each providing 2.5 Gbits/sec of service-bearing capacity, and be upgradeable to support 10 Gbits/sec of capacity using Alidians integrated DWDM capability.

Merits upgrade, in response to MichNet traffic doubling every 13-14 months over the past decade, is a planned move from 155- and 622-Mbits/sec connections to 2.5 Gbits/sec and greater speeds. The company previously used OC-3 and OC-12 leased lines.
