The carrier will install the MultiWave 1600 system along with ciena`s optical add/drop multiplexers for long-haul use in California. The 500-mi network, now under construction, will run from San Francisco to Los Angeles. gst Telecommunications initially will run eight wavelengths of OC-48 (2.5 Gbits/sec) through the network, with the option of expanding its capacity to 16 wavelengths.
