Fiber-optic modems

The Model 780, Model 782, E1, and T1 fiber-optic modems extend the transmission distance and reliability of high-speed T1 and E1 data traffic. These 850-nm units are compatible with multimode fiber and support fiber distances to 3.5 km. Models 781 and 783 provide the same per

formance at 1300 nm, offering compatibility with singlemode fiber cables and operation over distances of 16 km. The 78X Series includes a proprietary coding technique that provides a composite fiber link data pulse for each incoming data bit from the T1/E1 source whether its format was ami, B8ZS, or hdb3. The multimode units cost $620 each, and the singlemode units cost $925 each.
