Polish cable MSO Vectra S.A. has deployed a nationwide fiber-optic broadband access network using the ONS 15454 Multiservice Optical Transport Platform (MSTP) from Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO), the systems house reports. The roll out signals a change in direction for Vectra, from the use of leaded lines to a wholly owned new optical transport infrastructure.

The nationwide ring fiber-optic network connects nearly 30
cities, including Warsaw, Katowice, Wroclaw, Poznan, Radom, Bydgoszcz, Torun, and Gdynia. Vectra will use the network to support provision of such services as voice, data, video on demand, and mobile backhaul, to residential and business customers. The service provider initially will deploy 10-Gbps wavelengths over the network, but has the ability to upgrade to 100 Gbps. The ONS 15454 systems will support 42 x 100 Gbps wavelengths in a single bay, Cisco says.

Klonex, a Cisco Premier Certified Partner in Poland, designed and implemented the DWDM network.

“Cisco technology has significantly increased the bandwidth capabilities of Vectra’s backbone network for our current and planned services,” says Tomasz Zuranski, president of Vectra S.A. “It is a crucial element of our technology and telco infrastructure based on optical fibre and the main artery for Vectra’s digital services, lowering our digital transmission costs in the long-term perspective.”
