Casa Systems intros C100G integrated CCAP offering
Cable edge technology supplier Casa Systems has introduced the C100G, an integrated Converged Cable Access Platform (I-CCAP). CCAP is the CableLabs-led effort to specify technology that will enable cable MSOs to support next-generation IP-based services (see “Paving the path to IP with CCAP”).
The C100G will enable MSOs to deploy MPEG video, IPTV, and DOCSIS over a single port, says Casa Systems. It also offers what the company asserts is the highest CCAP density available at the lowest average power per channel.
The platform comprises the following modules:
- the new DS8X96 downstream module
- the new SMM8X10G switching module
- the existing US16X4 upstream module.
The platform initially will support more than 8,000 downstream channels. It leverages the company’s Software Defined Cable Architecture (SDCA) to enable new features and functionality.
"With the announcement of the C100G and its successful deployment in both lab and production networks, Casa Systems is in a strong position here in the U.S. and globally as operators begin to make their CCAP buying decisions," said Jeff Heynen, principal analyst of broadband access and pay TV for Infonetics Research.
