AT&T expanded its portfolio with AT&T Ultravailable Broadband Network, a custom, managed service that provides private, high-speed fiber optic networks and optical networking technology for clients who require uninterrupted access to their business operations.

This fully managed and monitored custom solution interconnects client data/technology centers and business sites in a reliable, secure metropolitan area network, for mirroring data and applications and transmitting large quantities of data at high speeds. It is backed by service level agreements tailored to client requirements.

Client benefits of AT&T Ultravailable Broadband Network include:

* A managed, high-availability network solution customized to support a client's operational environment;

* A cost-effective network solution for high-speed data transfer and real-time network monitoring, to meet the increased processing demands of e-business;

* AT&T designs, engineers and implements these solutions to provide uninterrupted service, even in the event of a single point of failure;

* Extendable bandwidth, enabling scalability and management of unpredictable traffic volumes;

* Non-disruptive upgrading of service and capacity, enabling clients to manage growth more effectively.

Monitoring and performance management of all components is provided around-the-clock via AT&T Solutions Global Enterprise Management Systems (GEMS) platform. AT&T Solutions is the networking professional services arm of AT&T.

GEMS produces seamless e-business networking capabilities, including predictive management, by integrating proprietary software developed at AT&T Labs with enterprise-management software. GEMS also can provide AT&T Solutions clients with e-business applications management and analysis.

AT&T Ultravailable Broadband Network employs Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology, which combines and transmits multiple signals simultaneously at different wavelengths on the same fiber, transforming it into multiple virtual fibers. DWDM increases the capacity of fiber optic networks, shortening the provisioning interval for new services. It is bit rate and protocol independent.

IBM Fiber Saver and Nortel Networks OPTera Metro DWDM equipment have been certified for use with AT&T Ultravailable Broadband Network. Other major hardware suppliers are in the midst of the certification process.

The service is available now in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., Atlanta and Houston metropolitan areas, and can be provisioned on a custom basis in other geographic areas, as clients require it.

Deployment of an AT&T Ultravailable Broadband Network typically begins with a business and technology risk assessment conducted by the AT&T Solutions professional services team. It also includes design, engineering, provisioning, installation and on-going monitoring and fault management of the fiber optic infrastructure and DWDM multiplexers. As part of its ongoing support, AT&T handles security, vendor management and change management for system upgrades.

AT&T Ultravailable Broadband Network is the foundation for solutions requiring state-of-the-art IT infrastructure for mission-critical applications. Last year, the company launched two high-availability services. AT&T Ultravailable Data provides end-to-end, fully managed solutions that bundle enterprise storage networks, enterprise data storage and proactive management and monitoring with professional services for design and implementation. AT&T Ultravailable Computing for HP platforms, introduced in a strategic alliance with Hewlett Packard, is a comprehensive, network- managed service that provides seamless, end-to-end computing continuity.
