Optical Solutions Inc. announced availability of the FiberPath Digital Access Platform, a product that allows service providers to integrate fiber-to-the-home broadband services with their existing Class 5 switches and other network equipment. The product has demonstrated high reliability during customer field tests and is now being released for general market availability. Release of the FiberPath Digital Access Platform comes after months of testing in fiber-to-the-home communities.

Linked to existing analog and digital telephone and cable television equipment, FiberPath fiber-to-the-home systems can be deployed to more residential markets in rural and suburban areas.

The FiberPath fiber-to-the-home system enables service providers to offer residential customers up to four telephone lines, up to 80 analog CATV channels plus digital CATV (with an additional 200 MHz signaling capability), and up to 10 Mbps high-speed data scalable in 64 Kbps increments. With the Digital Access Platform, FiberPath can also be used to provide reliable broadband links to hospitals, fire stations and other community lifeline applications.

The FiberPath Digital Access Platform integrates with existing telephone systems commonly used in telecommunications networks throughout North America, communicating with a Class 5 switch via the industry standard GR-303 interface. FiberPath functions with a Central Office-based head-end bay, transmitting optical light signals to and from a subscriber's residence via a passive optical network (PON). With FiberPath, service providers can deliver distortion-free digital voice services and accommodate escalating bandwidth requirements for Internet and video services, among others, well into the future.

By integrating with the GR-303 interface, FiberPath gives service providers full line concentration, meaning more than 2000 voice lines can be supported with one FiberPath system using as few as fourteen T1 circuits. The distortion-free digital voice services extend all the way to the home without redundant conversions to analog lines.

Optical Solutions will be participating in a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technical session at this week's Rural Independent Competitive Alliance (RICA) conference in Las Vegas. For more information about RICA, visit www.ricalliance.org.
