Cox selects Harmonic Optics for midwest cable plant upgrades

Harmonic Inc. (Nasdaq:HLIT) announced that Cox Communications, Inc. (NYSE:COX) has selected a suite of Harmonic fiber optic solutions to support multiple system upgrades throughout Oklahoma and Kansas. The ongoing plant rebuilds will serve over 800,000 subscribers once completed, and will include Cox's first rollout of a DWDM architecture. Harmonic's PWRBlazer Scaleable nodes, return path receivers, METROLink DWDM, and PWRLink 1310 transmission platforms will enable Cox to deploy a variety of next-generation broadband services.

Harmonic's PWRBlazer Nodes provide operators the flexibility to scale their networks to support increasing consumer demand for bandwidth. The full line of PWRBlazer models is designed to support a range of network architectures, including traditional HFC, deep-fiber, fiber to the curb, business and home. The flagship PWRBlazer Scaleable node platform also supports an impressive range of return path options, enabling operators to meet a diverse set of network requirements.

The Harmonic METROLink DWDM platform -- deployed by broadband communications suppliers -- dramatically increases the bandwidth capacity of traditional hybrid fiber coax (HFC) networks. The METROLink solution enables hubless distribution and cost-effective narrowcasting directly from the headend.
