Metro-Optix announces availability of CityStream metro optical networking platform

Feb. 20, 2001
Feb. 20, 2001--Metro-Optix Inc. announced the general availability of its CityStream metro optical networking platform for telecommunications service providers and the first shipments of the product to customers.

Metro-Optix Inc. announced the general availability of its CityStream metro optical networking platform for telecommunications service providers and the first shipments of the product to customers. Metro-Optix has developed a next generation, "protocol agile" bandwidth manager for carriers that delivers metropolitan access applications.

CityStream eases the burden on metropolitan service providers by lowering equipment costs and providing an integrated solution to provide a mixture of voice, Internet and other data services. With multi-network elements and multi-protocol capabilities, CityStream eliminates the need for separate SONET add/drop multiplexers, digital cross connect systems, ATM edge switches and IP routers at various points of the network.

The CityStream system supports all data, voice and video traffic over optical networks, with a non-blocking and scaleable core switching fabric. As a single network element optimized for demanding metropolitan applications, CityStream improves bandwidth efficiency and provides a clear migration path for service providers delivering optically-based voice, Internet and other data applications. Those applications include: SONET/SDH ring aggregation, mesh topology, DWDM interfaces, point-of-presence bandwidth management, service access multiplexing, DSLAM aggregation, ATM edge switching and IP routing, delivered via a centralized management and "point and click" rapid provisioning system.

The company also announced the completion of its manufacturing and R&D facility in order to meet its growing product commitments.
