PAETEC exceeds 200 Mbps via Ethernet-over-Copper

PAETEC Holding Corp. (NASDAQ GS:PAET) says it has used its Ethernet-over-Copper (EoC) network to provide a customer with Ethernet services at a transmission rate greater than 200 Mbps.

PAETEC Holding Corp. (NASDAQ GS:PAET) says it has used its Ethernet-over-Copper (EoC) network to provide a customer with Ethernet services at a transmission rate greater than 200 Mbps.

The network services provider, which Windstream recently agreed to purchase (see “Windstream to buy PAETEC”), has leveraged edge and aggregation platform from Overture Networks for the service. PAETEC says it can upgrade the transmission speed if the customer, which PAETEC identified as “a prominent web marketing company,” requires. The link uses pair bonding to support the high transmission rate.

PAETEC sees the EoC approach as a complement to its fiber-based network services offerings that enables high-speed connections in areas its fiber-optic network doesn't reach.

"With more enterprises taking advantage of emerging technologies like cloud computing, data streaming, and server virtualization, the need for dependable, high-speed Ethernet service delivery is rapidly accelerating," said Clint Heiden, president of national accounts and fiber services, PAETEC. "By leveraging the latest EoC advancements, we're able to meet increasing customer demand for robust bandwidth volumes at a fraction of the cost of other media."
