JANUARY 12, 2011 -- Sumitomo Electric Lightwave has expanded its Lynx2 CustomFit Splice-On Connector product line to include the Lynx2-MPO and Lynx2-ST field installable connector products. The MPO and ST join Sumitomo Electric Lightwave’s existing SC, LC, and FC connectors within the Lynx2 family.

Sumitomo Electric Lightwave says that market demand for a multi-fiber MPO fusion splice-on connector prompted the introduction of the Lynx2-MPO in either 12-fiber ribbon or ribbon cord options that meets the need for fast and easy on-site customized terminations in data centers, enterprise network, MDU, and any high-density network application. As a small form factor connector, the MPO connector also reduces the space required in racks and panels.

All Lynx2 connectors are designed to offer the full media types required for singlemode and 62.5µm, 50 µm, and 50 µm laser optimized gigabit multimode fiber types in APC, UPC, and PC (MMF) polishing options.

The company will display the new connectors at the 2011 BICSI Winter Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, FL, January 16–20 in Booth 924. Sumitomo Electric Lightwave’s new Lynx2 mini, which the company touts as “the shortest splice-on connector available,” also will be on display. The Lynx2 mini is the same length as a factory terminated SC, LC, or FC connector and is targeted at production and factory terminations.
