Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) says it will expand its 7705 Services Aggregation Router (SAR) family to include the 7705 SAR-M.

The new systems are power-efficient and small in size, Alcatel-Lucent says. They are designed to support such cell site access options as nxDS1/E1, Gigabit Ethernet, microwave, OADM, GPON, and xDSL. For example, the 7705 SAR-M xDSL module initially supports up to eight-pair bonding over VDSL2, with an upgrade path higher data rates via the company’s recently announced VDSL2 Vectoring technology.

The wide variety of infrastructure approaches supported enables carriers to maintain flexibility, either to continue to use existing infrastructure or to transition from that infrastructure to something better, Alcatel-Lucent says.
