AboveNet unveils upgraded eXpressWave ULH network
AUGUST 5, 2008 -- AboveNet Communications Inc. (search for AboveNet) has completed the upgrade of eXpressWave, its nationwide, ultra long haul network.
AboveNet says the network spans the U.S., connecting its customers to 14 major metro markets. The upgraded network, based on DWDM technology, was built purposely to minimize regeneration sites and active components, limiting network points of failure while offering improved latency performance.
Of particular value to customers concerned about true fiber diversity is that the metro "tails" coming off the network backbone are not shared, which provides the critical diverse path some enterprises require, note AboveNet representatives. In addition, eXpressWave provides increased bandwidth capability; it is optimized for the 10-Gbit needs of today with the capability to scale flexibly to meet changing needs and to support 40- and 100-Gbit/sec speeds in the very near future.
