JUNE 26, 2008 -- Optical Zonu Corp. (OZC; search for Optical Zonu) has introduced its new six-channel "Adder" optical multiplexer/demultiplexer (PN 147-7L01-SA), which works in conjunction with its four-channel counterpart (PN 147-4L01-SA) to support up to 10 CWDM channels or 10 "business class" Gigabit Ethernet customers. The product uses only a single fiber for full-duplex operation specified for link distances up to 75 km.
By installing the four-channel 147-4L01-SA first, the MSO can initially deploy the best performing, most widely used ITU wavelengths, in optimal order: 1551 nm, 1531 nm, 1511 nm,; then 1491 nm, and add others later as the need arises, the company says.
"Once the MSO needs to service a fourth business class customer on this single-fiber CWDM link, with the likelihood of eventually needing to provision for a fifth business class customer, it makes sense to add the six-channel 147-7L01-SA," explains Mike Hartmann, VP of sales and marketing for OZC. "Running an optical jumper from the 1491-nm port of the four-channel to the common input of the six-channel 'stitches' the two units together to provide a 10-channel multiplexer/demultiplexer, all without obsolescing, or removing, installed network elements."
Designed exclusively for use with OZC's single-fiber, full-duplex, CWDM, SFP transceivers, these two passive optical multiplexer/demultiplexers support 10 ITU-defined CWDM wavelengths.
The small quantity pricing for model 147-7L01-SA is $960; model 147-4L01-SA is $640. Delivery is 4 weeks ARO.
