Monaco Telecom to manage FTTH cable nets with Huawei D-CCAP platform

Monaco Telecom has selected Huawei's distributed converged cable access platform (D-CCAP) to manage its broadband access networks. The carrier's network, which combines fiber to the home (FTTH) and hybrid fiber/coax (HFC) infrastructure, will support services from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps as part of an upgrade project.

The service provider had used the two-technology approach -- HFC in older buildings and FTTH cables in new properties -- to reduce investment and shrink the deployment cycle. However, the growing complexity of the network and the associated difficulties in managing it had begun to slow service delivery. Monaco Telecom will use the Huawei D-CCAP to manage the two networks, with an eye toward converging the two network types.

Huawei says other D-CCAP customers include Guangzhou Digital Media, Shenzhen Topway, and WASU digital TV media group.
