Fiber and fiber-optic cable supplier Sterlite Technologies Ltd. (BSE: 532374, NSE: STRTECH) says its Center of Excellence at Aurangabad, India successfully tested multi-terabit optical transmission over a long-haul network that used the company’s fiber.

The DWDM test saw 80 wavelengths operating at 128 Gbps each spaced at 50 GHz travel over 1840 km of Sterlite's G.652.D OH-LITE fiber.

"In emerging economies, there is a need to plan infrastructure for accommodating faster transmission of huge volumes of data,” said Dr. Badri Gomatam, CTO at Sterlite Technologies. “Our Center of Excellence focuses on end-to-end development of this capacity. Improving the quality of the preform, developing next-generation optical fibers, specialized cabling solutions and enhancing network integration capability together contribute to a future-proof infrastructure."

The Center of Excellence is also working on higher data rates, such as 400 Gbps, as well as longer transmission distances.

"This is a proud moment for us as it establishes India among a few countries globally who possess such an advanced data transmission network capacity. Sterlite is committed to building a high-speed last-mile broadband infrastructure capability in India to reach from urban to semi-urban to the most remote rural areas," added Pravin Agarwal, director at Sterlite.
