AUGUST 20, 2009 -- tw telecom (search Lightwave for tw telecom) says it has been selected by the U.S. Air Force to install and manage data, Internet, and voice services at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX.
tw telecom won the five-year contract, valued at approximately $1 million, through a competitive bid process that evaluated technical compliance, past performance, and proposed costs. The carrier asserts installation of the services will be complete by October 31, 2009.
Lackland Air Force Base is home to the 37th Training Wing, the largest training wing in the U.S. Air Force. The 37th TRW provides basic military, professional, and technical skills, and English language training for the Air Force, other military services, government agencies, and allies. Its four primary training functions graduate more than 86,000 students annually. The wing also provides operating support to more than 70 tenant and associate units.
tw telecom says it connects more commercial buildings to its fiber network than any other competitive communications provider and has the third highest market share of retail Ethernet ports in service.
