26 JUNE 2009 -- Net Insight (search Lightwave for Net Insight), a developer of scalable optical transport technologies for media, IP, and broadcast networks, has announced that a large broadband and multimedia services operator/provider in southern Europe has placed an order for the company's Nimbra optical transport system.
Net Insight's Nimbra platform will be "a strategic component" of a contribution network supplied by the South European broadband and multimedia service (IPTV, telephony, and data) provider to distribute multimedia (ASI, SD-SDI, or HD-SDI) services. The platform includes Nimbra Vision, a complete management tool for operation and maintenance of the Nimbra network. Combined with the Nimbra hardware platform, Nimbra Vision is designed to enable the operator to reduce the complexity and cost of managing services immediately and going forward. It also provides greater flexibility and choice in terms of scaling both the bandwidth and choice of service as needs arise.
The south European operator has purchased the Nimbra platform via project partner Nokia Siemens Networks (search Lightwave for Nokia Siemens Networks).
"We are pleased to be selected by this new customer and we see business opportunity as the customer is planning further expansion," says Fredrik Trägårdh, chief executive officer of Net Insight. "The Nimbra platform provides transport of real-time critical services like HD video and audio without any packet loss or distortion, ensuring 100% quality of service for all kinds of voice, data, and video services."
The equipment will be delivered and commissioned in 2Q09.
