OCTOBER 13, 2009 -- Internap Network Services Corp. has added transatlantic submarine transport cable provider Hibernia Atlantic to its network of backbone providers. Hibernia says Internap’s decision was designed to further enhance its already robust connectivity between the US, Europe and Canada. Internap is expanding capacity to its international backbone as part of a previously stated strategy of investing in its core Performance IP services.

Internap’s patented routing technology is designed to choose the best path for content delivery. Internap delivers and distributes applications and content for more than 3,000 companies over its managed Internet and content delivery network (CDN). With the addition of Hibernia to the “best-path” options available within this architecture, Internap’s private network backbone offering is even less susceptible to failures in the rather unlikely event that more than one of its other providers was to experience simultaneous outages, Hibernia says.

“Internap is always looking for ways to build in redundancy and reliability while reducing costs,” said Eric Cooney, president and CEO of Internap. “Hibernia Atlantic’s security, diversity, and flexibility met our requirements for inclusion as part of our network.”

“Hibernia Atlantic’s network of local and regional networks in North America and Europe, coupled with its recent capacity upgrade, leave the carrier well-positioned to meet the rapidly increasing bandwidth demand that will be driven by increasing consumer demand for video services,” said Cindy Whelan, principal analyst, telecom services for Current Analysis. “Internap’s selection of Hibernia Atlantic for its international backbone builds upon Internap’s reputation for provisioning the most secure, reliable avenue to serve customers today and demonstrates anticipated growth in the future.”
