OCTOBER 14, 2009 -- NTT DOCOMO, Japan's largest mobile operator, has selected Alcatel-Lucent's 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS) for the all-IP transformation of its network. Alcatel-Lucent says its switch will enable NTT DOCOMO to deliver high-quality voice, data, and video services.

Based on its 7450 ESS, Alcatel-Lucent's technology will help NTT DOCOMO construct a nationwide, high-quality, latency-sensitive network addressing voice and video traffic when transporting over its core IP network. It also is anticipated to smooth the evolution path for NTT DOCOMO to upgrade its network to 10 Gbps and -- as network growth demands -– to 40 and 100 Gbps.

"This selection by one of the most advanced mobile operators in the world is a strong endorsement of Alcatel-Lucent's IP portfolio," says Sean Dolan, president of Alcatel-Lucent's activities in Asia Pacific. "Transforming its network to all-IP is enabling NTT DOCOMO to meet its customers' converged service requirements on data, voice, and video."
