OCTOBER 22, 2009 -- PBN, a supplier of end-to-end optical broadband equipment, will unveil its ODN-RFoG at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2009, in Denver, CO, Oct. 28-30.

The ODN-RFoG optical distribution node for radio frequency over glass (RFoG) forms part of PBN's Light Link Series 2 suite of products and is intended to provide a simplified alternative to building all-fiber networks. The advanced node has been designed as a prime building block for delivering cable television with DOCSIS-based high-speed Internet services over PON compliant fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) cable plant. The product is suited to expand existing DOCSIS/HFC networks with FTTX in new or renovated areas, without the need to deploy alternative BSS and OSS.

The ODN-RFoG includes a four-port erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) for the forward path that provides capacity for up to 32 or 64 cable TV/DOCSIS customers per port, totaling up to 128 or 256 customers per node.

The return path can be equipped with one or two dual optical receiver modules for 5~65 MHz, an RF combiner, and one or two optical return-path transmitter modules with various laser types. The unit comes with single or dual power-supply modules and an optional DOCSIS/HMS-based remote management module.

The ODN-RFoG is fully supported by the Light Link Series 3 NMS3 suite of software products for managing and controlling advanced optical broadband networks.
