JULY 10, 2009 -- Alcatel-Lucent (search Lightwave for Alcatel-Lucent) says that Samart Telcoms, a provider of network system services in Thailand and a member of the JJS consortium, has selected the systems vendor to supply an intelligent optical network for TOT Public Co. Ltd. (TOT). This contract will support TOT's IP broadband project, and is the largest transmission deal of this kind in Thailand and in the Southeast Asian region, Alcatel-Lucent asserts.
Alcatel-Lucent will provide Samart Telcoms with equipment and services to create an integrated, end-to-end infrastructure that will allow TOT to meet the increasing number of users while supporting the bandwidth demands driven by next-generation 3G services.
"Alcatel-Lucent's customer focus and leadership gives us confidence that their optical transport solutions are future-proof and the services delivered at the highest standard. Trusted partnership and reliability are essential in TOT's IP broadband project as it is crucial to the country's development and the knowledge-society we are building," said Watchai Vilailuck, CEO of Samart Telcoms Public Co. Ltd.
Alcatel-Lucent will provide intelligent optical core equipment, including its 1678 Metro Core Connect and Optical Multi-Service Node systems. Long-haul transmission will be provided by the Alcatel-Lucent 1626 Light Manager tunable and reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplex architecture. The network equipment, managed by the Alcatel-Lucent 1350 network management system, will position Samart Telecom to deliver TOT an advanced, high-capacity optical network infrastructure to meet the growing demand of TOT's business and residential users at the lowest cost per transported bit, Alcatel-Lucent concludes.
