JULY 22, 2009 -- NTT Communications Corp. has selected Infinera (search Lightwave for Infinera) Digital Optical Networks equipment for its new IP backbone network in the Tokyo metropolitan area, the systems vendor says. The new network will leverage Infineras to deliver a broader range of services with greater speed and flexibility to Internet service providers.
NTT Com operates an extensive infrastructure including the Arcstar Global IP-VPN and Global e-VLAN, as well as a Tier 1 IP backbone reaching more than 150 countries in partnership with major Internet service providers, and secure data centers in Asia, North America, and Europe.
Infinera says its equipment was chosen for the network because the digital intelligence of the Infinera Digital Optical Networks will enable the NTT Com network to achieve large capacity and network flexibility at reduced operating expenditure. In addition, the equipment will enable NTT Com to achieve a simplified network that is expandable. Infinera says its Bandwidth Virtualization architecture puts a minimum of 100 Gbps of capacity throughout the network. The GMPLS intelligence in the Infinera DTN network will enable NTT Com to deliver new services in days or minutes, the company asserts.
"The Infinera network will help NTT Com meet its customers' needs with great speed and flexibility," said Yoshimasa Tokui, senior vice president, Network Business Division of NTT Com.
