APRIL 27, 2009 -- Optimum Lightpath (search Lightwave for Optimum Lightpath), a provider of Ethernet-based communication services for New York metropolitan area businesses, has announced that New Jersey-based Cresskill Public School District selected Optimum Lightpath as its telecommunications provider.

By deploying the Optimum Lightpath network across its three campuses and Board of Education building, Cresskill Public Schools has increased the computing and communications power for nearly 2,000 students and a teaching staff of 180. The school district replaced Verizon's 3-Mbps ATM-based WAN connection and 10-Mbps Internet access with Optimum Lightpath's 20-Mbps Internet Voice service, and 1,000-Mbit Metro Ethernet circuits for their WAN. This deployment enables Cresskill to add cost-effective communications solutions and secure disaster recovery while futureproofing its needs, according to the service provider.

"I've worked in this industry for 21 years, and when dealing with national service providers, you're just a number," says Kevin Whitney, director of telecommunications at Cresskill School District. "During the installation with Optimum Lightpath, there was a definite human touch with each person. Now, for the same cost, I have more bandwidth, more reliability and scalability, and a provider that I can trust."

"We are delighted to add the Cresskill Public School system to our growing team of smart schools in the New York metropolitan area," says Dave Pistacchio, executive vice president and general manager of Optimum Lightpath, citing the schools' deployment of technologies such as VoIP, video, and SMART Boards in the classroom.
