APRIL 1, 2009 -- Teknovus says its DML enables MSOs to leverage their DOCSIS infrastructure as they deploy EPON-based fiber networks for advanced broadband services supporting residential, business, and backhaul subscribers.

APRIL 1, 2009 -- Teknovus has announced initial availability of its DOCSIS Mediation Layer (DML) middleware for cable operator equipment vendors. Teknovus says its DML enables MSOs to leverage their DOCSIS infrastructure as they deploy EPON-based fiber networks for advanced broadband services supporting residential, business, and backhaul subscribers.

Teknovus designed its DML middleware in cooperation with "leading" US and Japanese MSOs and multinational cable equipment vendors. Teknovus's DML is part of the Teknovus MSO Middleware product suite. The DML middleware is designed to enable preservation of the MSO's system integration model and all back-office systems. Teknovus says new FTTx-based services can be provisioned and managed using the DOCSIS and PacketCable architecture, eliminating the rewriting of subscriber provisioning and management systems and costly retraining.

Teknovus' DML software is designed for use in multiple configurations, such as:

  • an independent server managing multiple OLTs and ONUs
  • direct integration with an OLT
  • integration with Next Generation Modular CMTS equipment.
The DML development kit is available immediately for testing and integration by cable operator equipment vendors.
