MAY 21, 2009 -- Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. (search Lightwave for Huawei) says it has deployed the world' s largest optical-layer Automatic Switch Optical Network (ASON) for Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT), covering Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, and the northern provinces.
ASON transmission technology is designed to increase network stability, reduce operational cost, and enable more flexibility in broadband services.
The delivery of VNPT's network involved the transportation and installation of hundreds of Huawei ASON products across Northern Vietnam. The network ensures high carrier-class reliability of services even in the case of multi-point failures, Huawei says. The network also supports service level agreements, which enables VNPT to define different service reliability levels and priority levels for different customers. In addition, the network's ROADM and tunable OTU technologies realize fast provisioning of services and a decrease of maintenance difficulty and cost, Huawei adds.
"This is a significant upgrade to the backbone network of VNPT. We are delighted that Huawei deployed such a large and complicated network in only eight months," said Luong Manh Hoang, deputy general manager of Vietnam National Telecoms (VTN), the transmission networks arm of VNPT. "VNPT is committed to leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance our service availability and stability. Huawei' s outstanding support helps us achieve that goal."
