24 FEBRUARY 2009 -- euNetworks (search Lightwave for euNetworks) has selected Infinera (search Lightwave for Infinera) Digital Optical Network equipment for its pan-European network.
Headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, euNetworks provides high-performance networking services with low latency and high availability. With a fiber-rich network connecting 15 major cities throughout Western Europe, euNetworks focuses on offering high-quality services to a broad range of carriers, service providers, and enterprises including financial institutions and media companies.
Infinera says that euNetworks chose its equipment because the resulting architecture offered speed, flexibility, scalability, and reliability that could not be achieved with traditional DWDM platforms. The systems vendor adds that euNetworks CTO Albrecht Kraas said the Infinera system's interchangeable tributary adapter modules (TAMs) enable euNetworks to meet customer demands quickly and easily for a range of services including wavelengths and Ethernet services.
"The flexibility of upgrading to two-, three-, or four-way nodes and the non-blocking switching of the Infinera system are far superior to DWDM solutions based on ROADMs where you need to make decisions in advance on an upgrade path and then you are locked into those decisions," commented Kraas.
Xantaro Deutschland GmbH, an internationally focused service integrator, carried out planning and implementation of the optical network for euNetworks. Working closely together, Infinera and Xantaro deployed the initial phase of the pan-European network, reaching 14 cities, in six weeks.
The Infinera DTN, the main network element, is a digital ROADM combining high-capacity transport, integrated bandwidth management, and GMPLS-powered network intelligence in a single platform.
