GRATING/PRISM COMPONENT

April 1, 2000

The UltraSpec-C component for DWDM devices and analyzers has a holographic transmission grating recorded in a dichromated gelatin film and sealed between two precision prisms, providing a beam footprint on the grating much larger than the beam cross section, which results in high dispersion and high resolution in a 1/2-cubic-in. package. Combined with off-the-shelf lenses and photodiode arrays to construct optical spectrum analyzers, the component helps characterize C-band systems at 50-GHz channel spacing. It can also be used in high-channel-density multiplexers, demultiplexers, add/drop filters, and receivers.
