U.S. Department of State selects Level 3 for Internet services

Level 3 Communications Inc. won a multi-year contract with the U.S. Department of State to provide metro network services.

MARCH 4, 2010 -- Level 3 Communications Inc. won a multi-year contract with the U.S. Department of State to provide metro network services.

Level 3 will deliver services under the Washington Interagency Telecommunications Services (WITS 3) contract that negotiates telecommunications services on behalf of all federal agencies operating within the National Capital Region (NCR).

Under the terms of the agreement, Level 3 will provide Internet connectivity to 17 locations within the NCR, including the State Department headquarters in Washington, D.C. These services will enable high-speed data transmission and other day-to-day communications needs for the agency throughout the National Capital Region.

“Level 3 offers the right combination of metro network reach and service capabilities to support the advanced communication needs of the State Department,” says Edward Morche, senior vice president of Federal Markets for Level 3. “Under WITS 3, Level 3 is proud to deliver Internet infrastructure for our nation’s federal government agencies.”
