Optelian introduces next-generation optical networking platform
MARCH 2, 2010 -- Optelian, an optical transport system manufacturer, has introduced the OMS-719 Optical Networking Platform that supports next-generation Optical Transport capabilities. This comprehensive new platform is highly energy efficient offering low power consumption, providing Optelian customers a “green” system that is scalable and flexible. The multi-reach, (Access Metro and Long-haul) platform offers a compact footprint and high port density.
In addition to its portfolio of DWDM and CWDM solutions, Optelian added ROADM, Muxponders, OTN, and Ethernet VLAN switching to its LightGAIN optical networking system. Optelian is increasing its DWDM channel count to 80, adding higher-powered amplifiers and multi-degree ROADMs, as well as a variety of new Muxponder configurations. The OMS-719 universal platform supports all these new capabilities, and conforms to both North American and ETSI mounting standards.
“Our customers are demanding more from their optical networks,” says David Mills, VP sales for Optelian. “They want higher bandwidth along with increased visibility and management at the optical level while, at the same time they need to reduce operating cost and complexity. Optelian’s new platform provides a simple and affordable solution for network operators to meet these challenges.”
The OMS-719 platform is compatible with existing LightGAIN optical modules, and can be either convection or fan-cooled depending on the chosen configuration.
