XO Communications and Hibernia Atlantic collaborate to expand reach of trans-Atlantic and U.S. networks

JANUARY 19, 2009 – XO Communications will participate with Hibernia Atlantic, a diverse trans-Atlantic high-bandwidth connectivity provider, to offer high-capacity circuits throughout the U.S. and Europe.

The collaboration will leverage the recent 1.6 Tbps nationwide expansion of XO’s ultra-long-haul network--which more than doubled the capacity of XO’s inter-city transport network--to offer users high-capacity, high-speed connections to multiple cities throughout the U.S., as well as Hibernia’s fast and secure trans-Atlantic cable crossings to expand XO’s IP network in Europe. This opportunity provides Hibernia Atlantic additional capacity across XO’s U.S. network, while XO benefits from the strength of Hibernia’s trans-Atlantic cable crossings, designed to avoid highly congested routes, such as around New York and London waterways.

“As we further expand our network within the US and globally, we have chosen to collaborate with companies like XO who share our common vision for the highest level of customer support and quality transport services,” states Eric Gutshall, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Hibernia Atlantic. “Over the past two years, XO has made substantial investments to enhance its long-haul and metropolitan infrastructure by expanding its network coverage and offering efficient connectivity with services such as its Ethernet hub; this is the crux of why we have selected XO at this time.”

“Hibernia Atlantic is an attractive option for overseas companies requiring broad reach, innovative services and high-level operational and network performance,” states Don MacNeil, vice president of XO Carrier Services Operations. “By leveraging Hibernia’s trans-Atlantic network, XO can now have one of the most secure routes into Europe’s top peering exchanges, financial houses, and carrier hotels, thereby accessing key enterprise and carrier networks and peering partners globally.”

The collaboration between XO and Hibernia provides both companies complementary network infrastructure reach. With XO, Hibernia has extended its U.S. network reach substantially. With Hibernia, XO has support of its IP operations and peering infrastructure in London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Madrid, resulting in an estimated 30 percent increase in its trans-Atlantic capacity.
