APRIL 23, 2010 -- MRV Communications Inc. reveals that Luxembourg Telecom has chosen the MRV LambdaDriver WDM optical transport system to build a high-speed fiber-optic ring network to connect all of its data centers in Luxembourg. This makes Luxembourg Telecom the country’s first provider of countrywide data center interconnect services at speeds up to 10 Gbps, MRV asserts.
Luxembourg Telecom is a private, alternative telecom operator for businesses throughout the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The operator’s services include data center access, WAN services, web hosting, data housing, and managed services.
The carrier combined its Luxembourg Telecom Luxconnect fiber-optic infrastructure with MRV’s LambdaDriver WDM system to build a low-latency, energy efficient, and resilient fiber-optic ring. The network provides high-speed connections between the carrier’s customers and its data center facilities located throughout southern and central Luxembourg, including Luxembourg, Bettembourg, Betzdorf, Contern, Kayl, Kircherg, Munsbach, Windhof, and Roost.
“To be competitive, Luxembourg Telecom needed to set itself apart by building the country’s first ultra-low latency and high reliability data center network that also delivered a high level of configurability, and cost-effectiveness,” said Noam Lotan, CEO of MRV Communications.
“MRV’s leadership in this market gave us the confidence that our fiber ring would have the flexibility and reliability that our customers demand,” said Vincent Nicolay, sales director at Luxembourg Telecom.
With the new network in place, Luxembourg Telecom is reducing connectivity costs for its customers located outside Luxembourg. Additionally, Luxembourg Telecom’s network operation center provides 24/7 monitoring of its services, allowing the operator to guarantee its customers’ service level agreements for availability and performance.
