AboveNet Communications deploys Boston Data Center nodes
OCTOBER 30, 2007 -- AboveNet Communications Inc. (search for AboveNet) has deployed the first two nodes of its Boston Private Metro Optical Platform in the two Sentinel Data Centers. Sentinel Data Centers' customers located at its MA-1 (Needham, MA) and MA-2 (Bedford, MA) facilities will now have access to a scalable optical network platform offering services from 1 to 10 Gbits/sec to carrier points of presence and commercial buildings in the Boston area.
AboveNet is offering an optical network that bypasses the local telephone company network to offer diverse network paths to provide for disaster recovery and compliance-related network connectivity.
AboveNet's plan calls for the deployment of Private Metro Optical Nodes at "key data centers" throughout the Boston metro area. By doing so, AboveNet expects to deliver a suite of services that includes 100-Mbit/sec Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, long haul, VPN, DWDM wavelength services, and Internet access.
Doug Turtz, executive director of sales at AboveNet, said, "By deploying our first two Metro Optical nodes at Sentinel, AboveNet is uniquely positioned to deliver high-speed connections in a timely manner for Sentinel customers. Those customers can look forward to outstanding service offerings that tie into AboveNet's nationwide footprint."
