JULY 31, 2007 -- In a newly released report, Dell'Oro Group (search for Dell'Oro Group) predicts worldwide revenues from shipments of optical transport equipment will reach just over $10 billion in 2008 and then remain flat through 2011. According to the report, the market will be affected by mixed sales of WDM and SONET/SDH equipment.

"Service providers are continuing to rapidly deploy new systems equipped with higher bandwidth capabilities at record levels across all regions," said Jason Suey, analyst of optical transport research at Dell'Oro Group. "However, despite these recent deployments, we expect service providers will eventually moderate their network spending and switch their priority to delivering new services and generating a return from their customers."

The new Dell'Oro Group 5-Year Forecast Report offers an overview of the optical transport industry with tables covering manufacturers' revenue, average selling prices, unit shipments, tributary/line or wavelength shipments (by OC-3/STM-1, OC-12/STM-4, OC-48/STM-16, OC-192/STM-64, OC-768/STM-256, and Other). The report also tracks DWDM long-haul terrestrial, WDM metro, SONET/SDH, and optical switch equipment.
