FEBRUARY 26, 2007 -- ECI Telecom Ltd. (search for ECI Telecom) has completed the first stage of the construction of a metro optical network for Ukrtelecom JSC, a national telecommunication operator in Ukraine. This first stage covers Ukraine's nine largest regions.
The deployment of ECI's XDM optical platform will enable Ukrtelecom to meet increasing subscriber demand and offer them next generation services including VoIP and IPTV, the company says.
ECI has deployed almost 200 optical sites in nine regions in the country, based on the XDM-100/200 carrier-class CWDM product line, to create high-capacity metropolitan and regional multi-service transport networks. The new network deployment will enable Ukrtelecom to deliver ADSL services to over 100 thousand subscribers this year, and will facilitate the expansion and implementation of broadband access services in general.
"Ukrtelecom JSC has been working with ECI since 2003. ECI's XDM platform is the ideal solution for increasing the coverage and capacity of our national network," said Gennadiy Yaroshenko, deputy director of Ukrtelecom's Telecommunication Networks Maintenance Department. "ECI's solutions represent best-of-breed technology and satisfy our demands in terms of price/quality ratio. This project will allow us to offer new and advanced services to our customers."
"We are pleased to have been selected once again by Ukrtelecom," said Boris Mirkin, president, RBU Russia, CIS & Baltic States, ECI Telecom. "This deployment reinforces our continued success with the XDM product line and reiterates the strategic importance of Central and Eastern European telecommunications markets, as it strengthens our position in the region."
ECI Telecom's partnership with Ukrtelecom JSC dates back to 2003, and includes the deployment and maintenance of a regional SDH and DWDM backbone, based on the XDM-1000 MSTP product line in more than 50 cities throughout the country.
