May 7, 2004 Austin, TX -- Installers and manufacturers in numerous industries will be able to save front-panel space and simplify fiber management with a new ruggedized fiber-optic assembly from 3M. The MTP/MPO Multi-Fiber Ruggedized Fan-out Cable Assemblies are available with singlemode or multimode fiber in either 8- or 12-fiber cables and are used inside and outside the box.

These cable assemblies have applications in telecommunication, networking, and enterprise computing OEMs; broadcast communications; campus networking; premise installations; test equipment; high-end industrial controls; military; and medical applications.

These fan-outs use an MTP connector on one end and discrete connectors (LC, SC, FC, and ST) on the breakout end and meet higher pull-strength requirements for extensive handling applications.

The high-density MTP connector terminates 12 fibers in a space less than 0.5 inch wide. Combined, the connector and ribbon cable reduce cable bulk between equipment racks. MTP cable assemblies are also available in jumpers and non-ruggedized fan-outs. MTP cable assemblies offer both standard and premium insertion loss performance.
