Media converters and switches

Fiber Drive high-density, multimedia, and multiprotocol optical media converters and switches double data throughput, according to the manufacturer, and increase distances up to 110 km over singlemode fiber. These centrally managed fiber-cabling products are targeted at the LAN, MAN, and enterprise markets. An SNMP-based management module enables fault isolation and diagnosis of converters and transceivers through loopback and SNMP MIBs. Media-conversion capabilities include UTP to fiber, multimode to singlemode fiber, and Gigabit SX to Gigabit LX. The system supports SONET, SDH, ATM, FDDI, and 10/100/1000-Mbit/sec Ethernet, with interchangeable modules. Prices range from $168 for copper-to-multimode Ethernet modules to $7000 for a Gigabit Ethernet module with 45-km range over a single strand. The SNMP management module is $733 and the 1-, 4-, and 16-slot chassis are $78, $506, and $735, respectively.
