Altarede upgrades fiber network routes in Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo with Padtec

The DWDM upgrade, which included new fiber builds in some instances, will enable Altarede to keep pace with the demands of its operator, ISP, government, and enterprise customers along routes between Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo.

Padtec says it has supplied 200G and 800G transponders to Brazilian service provider Altarede Corporate. The new optical transport equipment included Padtec DWDM systems with ROADM capabilities. The Brazil-based optical technology provider also supplied services for technical support and the monitoring of the optical network through its network operations center (NOC).

The upgrade process began last year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Mario Benech Gulla, Altarede Corporate’s CTO. “We mapped the main connection points and created a strategic contingency plan for the network, Gulla explained. “In total, we invested more than R$ 10 million in the modernization of our network: acquiring Padtec solutions, installing new PoPs, activating new optical cables, and adapting our infrastructure in general.

“The digital transformation of companies, new trends in distance education, and the significant increase in the use of streaming video are signs of a new era,” Gulla continued. “Altarede Corporate is prepared to offer very high capacity broadband to meet the demands for new services which will continue after the end of social isolation with the changes in people's habits. Padtec's DWDM solution prepared our optical network for scalable and flexible growth in data traffic capacity to accompany the increase in demand and our expansion in the market.”
