HE-NET deploys Padtec 200G DWDM in Brazilian state of Bahia

April 5, 2021
Brazilian government communications authority Anatel estimates that Bahia has more subscribers than any other state in the country.

HE-NET, a telecommunications service provider in the Brazilian state of Bahia, has deployed 200G DWDM technology on its fiber network in the southern and southwestern regions of the state. Padtec says it supplied the 200G transponders.

The service provider operates more than 2,500 km of optical network infrastructure, which it uses to serve the needs of residential and business customers. Brazilian government communications authority Anatel estimates that Bahia has more subscribers than any other state in the country.

The 200G deployment centers, at least initially, on two new optical rings that connect the main municipalities in the south and southwest of the state. Padtec says it supplied optical amplifiers and route protection systems as well as the 200G transponders. The company notes that HE-NET also plans to use the Padtec NMS+ platform for network monitoring and data traffic management on its new DWDM fiber-optic routes in real time. To aid deployment and troubleshooting, Padtec also supplied optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs) developed with technology from Viavi Solutions (NASDAQ:VIAVI).

“In recent years, HE-NET has stood out as the provider with the highest-speed broadband services in its coverage area according to the main measurement sites in the country. And in 2020, received the international GPTW (Great Place to Work) certification that certified it as one of the best companies to work for,” stated Helder Araujo, HE-NET's executive director. “Our goal is to continue to be recognized for offering a unique connectivity experience and this is only possible with significant investments in infrastructure and innovation in products and services. In that regard, Padtec's DWDM solution is an important ally for the evolution of our optical networks.”
