Fresh off its placement of optical crossconnects with mci Corp. of Washington, DC, Hitachi Telecom (usa) Inc. of Norcross, GA has announced further deals with the U.S. telecommunications giant. mci has ordered Hitachi`s amn 5192 OC-192 Synchronous Optical Network transmission equipment, which is designed to support capacity evolution "beyond 10 Gbits/sec to 160 Gbits/sec through wavelength-division multiplexing [wdm]." The order followed a trial of the system in a 40-Gbit/sec configuration using OC-192 and wdm on a route between Chicago, IL, and St. Louis, MO.
