Lumentis selected for Stock Exchange networks
21 November 2002 -- Lumentis AB, Stockholm, Sweden, has announced that its optical metro platform has been chosen for test and validation in OM's Swedish and international optical networks.
Lumentis solution is already in traffic for approval in some of the stock exchanges for which OM is responsible. Additional networks will be delivered during November and December. Given the strategic choice of Lumentis' optical platform, OM is now planning for further installations internationally.
"OM has done a thorough study of available technologies in order to get a solution that will give them the best net economy as well as the highest flexibility. Neither long distance interfaces or CWDM-technology came close to the fiber utilization and operational expenses that Lumentis DWDM-product could offer," said Par Johanson, Director of Marketing and Sales at Lumentis.
"We are satisfied to be able to deliver a product that cost effectively can handle the varying distance and capacity requirements that are characteristic for enterprise and storage area networks. In addition, we can offer a fully redundant network architecture for high reliability, which is an absolute requirement for the financial market."
By deploying Lumentis' WDM equipment (Wavelength Division Multiplexing), OM will be able to easily adapt to higher capacity, longer distances and changes in network topology. The simplified network design and reduced fiber demand can be directly translated into savings in operational expenses and faster return on investment.
Lumentis offers, as part of the WDM-architecture, a variety of plug-in units that can combine several data streams into one wavelength. This concept reduces the cost for each individual channel and allows the network to run a broader range of traffic types and applications at a lower cost.
"With our new system architecture, we demonstrate a clear business case for any metropolitan network without sacrificing network capacity, flexibility or quality-of-service monitoring," said Anders Lundberg, CEO of Lumentis. "We are pleased to have gained the trust of OM and their choice to continue with us for their optical networking."
Lumentis to build 3G-network for Hi3G in Sweden
Lumentis has also announced an order to build the 3G-transport for Hi3G in the Malmo region in the South of Sweden. The company has previously delivered and installed a solution for Hi3G's 3G-network in the Stockholm region.
Lumentis will deliver to the Malmo region its optical SDH/SONET-solution that is optimised for mobile 2G- and 3G-networks. This solution results in lower transmission costs for mobile networks as well as it offers a disturbance free upgrade path to DWDM over the same fibre infrastructure.
By deploying Lumentis' equipment, Hi3G will have a smooth upgrade path for higher capacity as well as the ability to handle multi-service transport. As part of this order, Lumentis also delivers an element management system that fulfils functionality requirements and applicable standards for mobile networks.
