Fiber-optic network services provider Interoute says it will offer two routes into Europe via the South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 5 (SEA-ME-WE 5) submarine cable system. The entry will points include Interoute point of presence (PoPs) in Marseilles, France, and the Open Hub Med (OHM) Data Centre in Palermo, Sicily.

Use of the two entry points will enable both resilience and route diversity, Interoute asserts. Both entry points will offer access to Interoute's pan-European network. The service provider says it will be able to offer multiple 100-Gbps wavelengths between on-net routes in as little as 4 weeks.

The company plans to use the entry points to offer a variety of connectivity services, including dark fiber, wavelength services, Carrier Ethernet, managed bandwidth, and IP transit. Overall, Interoute says it directly connects 124 cities in 29 countries.

The SEA-ME-WE 5 submarine network, which is still under construction, is designed to carry up to 24 Tbps of capacity between South-East Asia, the Middle East, and Europe (see "SEA-ME-WE 5 submarine cable backers announce landings"). It is a follow on to earlier SEA-ME-WE undersea cable systems.
