Bite Lithuania adds 100 Gbps to DWDM network

Mobile operator Bite Lithuania has added 100-Gbps capabilities to its DWDM network with an upgrade of the Coriant hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platforms already in service, according to the systems house. Bite will use the new capacity, which Coriant delivered with the help of local partner Telekomservisas, to support such high-bandwidth services as 4G/5G mobile data, broadband Internet, and HD/OTT video.

Bite began adding the 100-Gbps capabilities in May, according to Coriant. The platforms provide a path toward further upgrades, including 400-Gbps wavelengths.

"Preparing for the next-generation internet and emerging 5G mobile communications will require best-in-class technology innovation throughout the mobile network, but especially at the high-capacity optical core," said Gintas Butenas, Bite Lithuania's network director. "We are excited to partner with Coriant and Telekomservisas to lay the scalable and resilient fiber-optic foundation for a new generation of services that will transform the way Lithuanians live, work, and play."
