Telia Carrier will deploy Coriant's CloudWave Optics technology on its pan-European fiber-optic backbone network, the two companies announced today. The DWDM fiber-optic network is in part built upon Coriant's hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform and will now have the ability to scale to support 400-Gbps optical transmission.

Among the first implementations of the CloudWave Optics technology will be a 400G-enabled fiber route between Copenhagen and Frankfurt. Telia Carrier also will apply the technology to such challenging routes as a submarine cable long-haul link to London.

Use of CloudWave Optics will not only boost network capacity, but also offer improved optical link control and software programmable modulation capabilities to maximize reach and performance, the parties say.

"As our customers in Europe experience increased demand for capacity to support their business-critical applications, we are committed to investing in best-in-class innovation to stay at the forefront of service excellence," said Mattias Fridström, Telia Carrier CTO. "The Coriant solution enables us to significantly improve utilization of our existing DWDM infrastructure and rapidly provision new services to meet our customers' dynamic connectivity requirements."
