The HP E4324A test module extends the dynamic test range of the HP 8147 otdr. The module delivers a dynamic range of more than 42 dB at a 1310-nm wavelength and 41 dB at a wavelength of 1550 nm. It provides improved fiber and event characterization, even at pulsewidths 1 msec, eliminating the Oripple-on-traceO effect caused by polarization properties of the test setup. The otdr with the 42-dB module is priced from $33,000. For HP 8147 customers who want to purchase the dynamic-range module separately, the cost is $24,000.
