Fibernet UK deploys network management solution based on Micromuse's Netcool

Sept. 5, 2001
Sept. 5, 2001--Micromuse Inc., a provider of realtime fault management and service assurance software, announced that Fibernet Group plc has deployed a network management solution based on Micromuse's flagship Netcool/OMNIbus application.

Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE), a provider of realtime fault management and service assurance software, announced that Fibernet Group plc has deployed a network management solution based on Micromuse's flagship Netcool/OMNIbus application. Fibernet operates nationwide fiber-optic networks in the United Kingdom and Germany and is currently building a further network in France. The Netcool software is helping to provide a realtime end-to-end service uptime solution for Fibernet's Total Area Network (TANet) fiber-optic backbone.

Fibernet builds high-bandwidth, high-speed fiber-optic networks for enterprise and service provider customers in the UK and Germany. Its customers include HSBC, AXA Group, Direct Line, Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse First Boston and more than 100 service providers. Fibernet's "TANet" national networks cover more than 3,500 kilometers in the UK and 3,300 kilometers in Germany with PoPs in all primary and secondary towns and cities.

After a thorough analysis of the available solutions, Fibernet deployed a comprehensive end-to-end network management solution based on Micromuse's Netcool/OMNIbus application. By collecting and consolidating alarms from across Fibernet's Cisco Powered Network infrastructure, including an ATM service delivery platform, Marconi WDM and SDH equipment and Hewlett-Packard's HP OpenView application, the solution helps Fibernet better manage service availability and assure quality of service.

The Netcool-based software provides Fibernet's network operators with a single-screen "digital dashboard" view of network status -- in realtime. This enables Fibernet's operators to effectively and efficiently resolve problems before they can lead to service outages. Close integration with Remedy, Fibernet's trouble ticketing application, gives operators the ability to populate trouble tickets with network fault information and deliver more proactive service guarantees. Asset Plan was responsible for implementing the Netcool applications with Fibernet's existing infrastructure.
